2. Information we process

Website visits

Cloudflare processes ordinary network and security information needed to deliver and protect the website. This can include an IP address, request headers, device or browser signals, timestamps, and security events.

The website records limited first-party usage events in Cloudflare D1: the page path, timestamp, referring hostname, and any campaign source, medium, or campaign values contained in the visited URL. It also counts selected outbound book, marketplace, Royal Road, smart-link, and email-link clicks. These records do not contain a raw IP address, email address, full user-agent string, full referring URL, browser fingerprint, cookie identifier, or persistent visitor identifier. Each event has a random database identifier that is not derived from a visitor and is never reused. Referrer data is limited to the hostname. Unique and returning visitors are not measured. As currently collected in production, these events cannot be linked to an identifiable visitor.

Book Alerts

If you request Book Alerts, we process your email address, the alert categories and book formats you select, double opt-in confirmation records, subscription status, preference updates, unsubscribe or suppression status, and email delivery events. You are not eligible for announcements until you complete double opt-in.

Brevo is used to collect Book Alerts requests, deliver the double opt-in confirmation, record selected preferences, manage unsubscribes, and deliver authorized alerts. The website does not treat an address as subscribed until Brevo records the completed double opt-in.

Messages and rights requests

If you contact us, we process the information contained in your message and the contact details needed to respond.

3. Purposes and legal bases

• Book Alerts: your consent, expressed through your selected preferences and completed double opt-in. You can withdraw consent at any time.
• Preference management and unsubscribe suppression: compliance with your request and applicable direct-marketing obligations.
• Website delivery, abuse prevention, and security: legitimate interests in providing a secure and reliable website.
• Limited cookie-free audience and link measurement: legitimate interests in understanding aggregate use and improving the website, balanced by data minimisation and the absence of persistent visitor identifiers. You may object by contacting us.
• Responding to messages and rights requests: taking the requested steps and complying with applicable legal obligations.

4. Cookies and browser storage

The Legend of Circé application does not set advertising or analytics cookies and does not use local storage, session storage, IndexedDB, or browser fingerprinting for public analytics. Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, advertising pixels, and behavioural tracking tools are not installed.

Cloudflare may use strictly necessary security storage when a visitor opens or submits the Book Alerts form. This can include the _cfuvid cookie used by Cloudflare rate limiting to distinguish visitors who share an IP address, limited Turnstile browser storage used to complete the anti-bot challenge, and a cf_clearance cookie only if Turnstile pre-clearance or another security challenge is enabled. Cloudflare Access authentication cookies apply only to the private administration area.

Because the public website does not use non-essential cookies or similar browser storage, it does not display a cookie-consent banner. This position will be reviewed before introducing any embedded service, advertising tool, behavioural tracker, or non-essential browser storage.

5. Service providers and transfers

• Cloudflare: website delivery, Workers, D1, security, and private administrative access. Cloudflare operates a global network and may process data outside your country under its contractual transfer safeguards.
• Brevo SAS: double opt-in, contact preferences, transactional or campaign delivery, unsubscribe handling, and related delivery records. Brevo and its subprocessors may process data in the locations described in its legal documentation and applicable data-processing terms.

Links to bookstores, Royal Road, and social networks open external services. Those services process data under their own privacy notices after you follow the link; they are not embedded as behavioural trackers on this website.

6. Retention

• Active Book Alerts details are retained while you remain subscribed.
• After unsubscribe, a minimal suppression record may be retained for as long as necessary to respect your opt-out and meet applicable legal or evidential requirements.
• Unconfirmed requests and delivery records are retained only while needed to secure, troubleshoot, and document the double opt-in process, subject to applicable legal requirements.
• First-party D1 analytics events are anonymous as currently collected and are retained indefinitely to preserve historical dashboard totals and trends.
• Potentially identifying raw visitor analytics are not currently stored in D1. If that changes, the collection will require automatic deletion within 90 days, and only irreversibly anonymous aggregate statistics may be retained for longer.
• Cloudflare security and request information is retained according to the service and account settings needed to protect and operate the website.
• Rights-request correspondence is retained only for as long as needed to answer the request and document compliance.

7. Your choices and rights

Book Alerts messages provide ways to update your selected preferences and unsubscribe. Unsubscribing prevents future Book Alerts and does not reactivate or broaden any preference.

Depending on applicable law, you may ask for access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability, or objection, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Contact contact@legendofcirce.com. You may also lodge a complaint with the data-protection authority responsible for your place of residence or work.

8. Changes to this policy

This policy will be updated when the website's data practices or service providers materially change. New non-essential tracking will not be introduced without first reviewing whether consent is required.
